Guruvayur elephant race: tusker Gokul winner

GURUVAYUR: The celebrated Guruvayur elephant race took place and single tusker Gokul was crowned victorious. Tusker Chentahmarakshan came second.The race was conducted after the customary practices in the Guruvayur temple. The clock struck three at Guruvayur giving signs about the start of the procedures. The mahouts are then positioned on the top of the tuskers while the maraar will blare the conch declaring the start of the race.

The first elephant should pass through the gopura corridor to emerge the winner. Gokul after victory took seven rounds around Guruvayur and bowed before the deity. Ten days from now, Gokul will have a luxurious treatment replete with edibles inside the temple.
