KOCHI: After the post-mortem, the police confirmed that the child was killed after being assaulted by the accused. When the child's body was found, it showed numerous injuries, but the police did not confirm the occurrence of rape. However, after the post-mortem, the forensic team informed the police that the child was killed during a sexual assault.
The forensic team provided details to the police, stating that after the rape the child was strangled and suffocated to death.
The body of the five-year-old girl, the daughter of a native of Bihar who went missing from Aluva yesterday, was found tied in a sack near the garbage heap in Aluva market this afternoon. Asafaq Alam, a native of Assam was arrested and confessed to the police that he had killed the child.
Asafaq Alam abducted the child by luring her with the promise of buying her juice at around 3 pm yesterday. The police identified Asafaq abducting the child from CCTV footage and apprehended him in Thottakkattukara around 9:30 in the evening. Asafaq was drunk and unconscious at the time of the arrest, so the police could not obtain any information from him during the night. However, in the morning, workers at Aluva market informed the police that they had seen a man with a child in the market the previous evening.
Asafaq, who became sober in the morning, initially told the police that he had handed over the child to someone named Zakir. However, he later confessed to the crime. Subsequently, around 12 o'clock, the body was found on the banks of Periyar, where garbage is dumped behind the market. Upon receiving the information, the girl's father was brought to the spot and the body was identified.
