THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the demise of Kanam Rajendran, CPI has appointed national secretariat member Binoy Viswam as its state secretary. The assignment is temporary. Party's national general secretary D Raja informed that the state executive elected Binoy Viswam unanimously. D Raja told the media that the state council will meet on the 28th of this month and give final approval to the executive decision.
Binoy Viswam responded that he will try to do the duty entrusted to him by the party to the best of his ability. Efforts will be made to strengthen the Left Front to the same extent as to strengthen the CPI. Although sometimes criticized by the media, we are well aware of their support for the Communist Party. Binoy Viswam said that he is thankful for the support given by Amrita Hospital and the staff for Kanam's treatment. Binoy is the second member from Kerala in the Central Secretariat.
When Kanam applied for a three-month leave to the party leadership for the second time for his foot surgery, he also suggested that Binoy Viswam, who became a member of the national secretariat along with him, should be given the secretaryship. Kanam's death came as the National Council meeting on the 16th and 17th was to discuss the matter. The responsibility was handed over to Binoy Viswam as it was the last suggestion put forward by Kanam Rajendran to the party leadership.
