Kerala Kaumudi impact; Kerala University to implement Aadhar-based biometric punching system

g

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala University is set to introduce an Aadhaar-based biometric punching system to regulate the attendance of teachers and non-teaching staff. This initiative aims to ensure punctuality and discipline among employees. The university will integrate this system with Spark, a payroll software, to streamline salary management.

The move comes after concerns were raised about irregular working hours as reported by 'Kerala Kaumudi'. In response, the government intervened swiftly, directing the university to expedite the process. Keltron, a trusted technology provider has been awarded the contract to install 18 punching machines across the Palayam headquarters and Kariyavattam campus.

The government has allocated 32 lakh for this project, with Keltron tasked with replacing old punching machines. The Vice Chancellor and Registrar will oversee the implementation and monitoring of the new system.

Previously, attempts to introduce punching systems were met with limited success. However, strict measures will now be enforced with salary deductions for late arrivals. Employees will also receive certain time relaxations each month with overtime work compensated according to Kerala Service Rules.

The agreement with Keltron ensures swift installation of the integrated punching system. Dr K.S. Anilkumar, Registrar, expressed confidence in the timely implementation of this initiative.
