KOLKATA: Bengal BJP leader Sabyasachi Ghosh has been arrested by the police in connection with a sex trafficking racket in Sandeshkhali. 11 accused have been arrested from the spot. Trinamool Congress on its official page alleged that Sabyasachi Ghosh was arrested for running a prostitution racket involving minor girls. The TMC claimed that six victims were rescued and accused the BJP of not protecting women but those who exploit them.
This incident occurred amid ongoing tensions between the state government and the BJP over the Sandeshkhali issue. Police had prevented BJP women workers, led by Locket Chatterjee and Agnimitra Paul MLA, from visiting Sandeshkhali. BJP Mahila Morcha president Agnimitra Paul accused the state government of attempting to conceal the truth.
Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission will conduct an on-the-spot inspection regarding allegations of human rights violations in Sandeshkhali. Women have accused several leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress of sexual exploitation and land grabbing. The primary accused is Sheikh Shah Jahan, a member of the local Zilla Parishad. After Sheikh Shahjahan went into hiding, women came forward with allegations against TMC leaders. The enforcement team that visited Shah Jahan's house was attacked.
