Cop found dead in quarters in capital city

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A cop was found dead in Poonthura. He has been identified as Madana Kumar, a civil police officer working in Thiruvananthapuram city traffic enforcement unit (north).

He was found hanging in the police quarters C2 coming under the limits of Poonthura police station. The body is of two days old. He is a native of Parasuvaikkal in Parassala. He was staying alone in the quarters for more than five months. The reason for the suicide is not known.

The number of policemen committing suicide is on the rise in Kerala. The Ernakulam Rural Division has recently taken steps to start a support group to help officers who are facing psychological trauma and other problems in the wake of the high number of suicide deaths among members of the police force. Ernakulam Rural Police Chief Vaibhav Saxena's support group is working under the guidance of Additional District Superintendent of Police.
