KANNUR: Kannur ADM K Naveen Babu ended his life when he was about to go to his hometown following the transfer he got on request. He had only seven months to retire. Naveen, who wanted to spend the last days of his service with his family, committed suicide on the previous day of boarding the train back home.
Naveen's family are CPM supporters. His friend Malayalappuzha Shashi said Naveen Babu was a government official who worked very decently. They had worked together for a long time in Pathanamthitta. So far, there are no complaints against him. He was a person who worked without giving a chance to raise any allegations. He was away from home for a long time as part of his work. He was transferred to Kannur three months ago.
Before this he was in Kasargod. The people of Kasargod had adored him. He was sad to leave Kasaragod. Heard about the allegations raised by the district panchayat president through media. Didn’t call him as he would not have been in a situation to talk. The district panchayat president has the right to raise a complaint. However, the venue chosen for it was not right, said Shashi.
Naveen Babu was found dead in his quarters at Pallikunnu. It is a case of suicide. He was to enter duty in Pathanamthitta, his native place after transferred from Kannur. The district panchayat president P P Divya had harshly criticized the ADM in the sendoff function held at the Kannur collectorate yesterday evening.
Divya said there was a delay of months in giving no objection letter for the petrol pump in Chengalai and knows how permission was given in the end. She had said that more information will surface in two days. Divya left the venue saying that she doesn’t want to be present when the memento is given to him. The driver said after the function, while returning home in his official vehicle, he asked to stop the vehicle and got out. His relatives were waiting for him at Chengannur railway station. He was supposed to reach Pathanamthitta this morning. He was found dead in the search conducted after his family informed of his absence.
