Heavy rain: Army deployed to ensure safety of people

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram districts to rescue people from the damage caused by heavy rains. These districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall today and tomorrow. One more team of the NDRF will be deployed to the Alappuzha and Idukki districts in case of emergency. The NDRF teams will also be sent to Kollam and Kannur districts.

Two teams of the Indian army are deployed in Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram respectively.


The Defense Security Corps has been deployed in Kozhikode and Wayanad. Two Air Force choppers are stationed at Thiruvananthapuram and INS Garuda in Kochi. They can be deployed at any time in case of requirements. The Volunteer Force and Civil Defense are ready to deal with any emergencies.

The rivers did not overflow as the Idukki, Idamalayar and Pampa dams were opened in a controlled manner to avoid floods.

Extreme caution

  • Those living in disaster-prone areas and homes should move to camps if the rains intensify.
  • People living in such areas should prepare and carry emergency kits with them
  • Those living in uninhabitable houses and those living along the river banks should be relocated.

  • Yellow: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Palakkad
  • Green: Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod

Tomorrow

  • Yellow: Kasargod, Kollam, Alappuzha
  • Orange: In other districts.
