KOZHIKODE: An inmate, who escaped from the mental health centre in Kuthiravattom, died in an accident. He escaped after drilling the wall of the bathroom. Remand accused Muhammed Irfan, a native of Malappuram, died in the accident.

He escaped last night after drilling the wall. He was housed at the single cell of the third ward. Police believe that he drilled the wall using a spoon.

As he was a remand accused, police guard was arranged for his cell instead of watchers. He escaped from here. Initial reports said that he took three days to complete the drilling.

He met with the accident at Kottakkal while proceeding to Malappuram. He sustained injuries while he was walking near the side of the collision between a lorry and a bike. He was rushed to a private hospital in a critical condition, but his life could not be saved.

Security breach is the reason for the escape of the inmate. There are a total of four staffs here for security. The superintendent was not ready to comment on the matter.
