ROME: Leonardo del Vecchio, Italy's second-richest man and owner of eyewear brands Ray-Ban, has passed away at the age of 87.
He was in the intensive care unit at San Rafael Hospital in Milan for a few weeks. Vecchio had built an eyewear empire by owning world-renowned brands such as Persol, Oakley and Rayban.
Vecchio, who made a revolution by making eyewear an indispensable part of the fashion world, has a net worth of $ 273 billion, as per Forbes' list of the world's billionaires. Vecchio is ranked 54th among the world's billionaires. He was born on May 22, 1935, into a poor family in Milan.
