Cop accused in cheating case found hanging

PATHANAMTHITTA: A policeman, arraigned in a cheating case, was found hanging. He has been identified as Binu Kumar of Kokkathode and CPO of Pathanamthitta Konni station. A case was registered against him at Ranni station on a complaint filed by a resident of Ranni.

Binu, who was absconding in the cheating case, was found hanging at the AR camp in Pathanamthitta around 10 am. The body was found hanging from the window in the barrack of the camp. He committed suicide by using another cop’s clothes.

The allegation of extorting money after befriending women was raised against him. He was absconding for a month after a complaint was lodged against him for cheating a woman of Rs 13.5 lakh and a car while working in Ranni Station. He was not arrested in the case so far. In the meanwhile, he reached the camp and took the drastic step.

He had taken Rs 10 lakh from a private financial firm after pledging the RC book of the car stolen from the woman. There were similar complaints against him. A departmental inquiry was also conducted against him. The high court had rejected his anticipatory bail plea in the case. The police conclude that he may have committed suicide depressed over it.
