KANNUR: A 22-year-old woman from Iritty in Kannur, who was working in Japan, was found dead after being hit by a train in Kamigahara. The deceased has been identified as V. Devika, daughter of Prakashan and Beena of Thekkanveettil in Nidiyodi.
Devika was reportedly hit by the train in Kamigahara at around 10.20 pm IST on Wednesday. Her identity was confirmed after authorities examined an identity card found at the scene.
Devika had moved to Japan after completing a lab technician course. She was working as a nursing assistant at Igalo Chovan Social Welfare Corporation. She had joined the job six months ago under a three-year employment contract.
Her family had been worried after she went missing. Relatives had approached several authorities, including the Chief Minister, seeking help to trace her. They later received the tragic news that she had died in a train accident.
The family said the local authorities had expressed difficulties in arranging the procedures to bring Devika's body back to Kerala. They subsequently sought the assistance of the Indian Embassy. Her relatives, expatriate organisations and elected representatives are now coordinating efforts to bring her body back to Kerala.
