15 newborns die in fire in Pakistan hospital, probe launched

ISLAMABAD: 15 newborns died in a fire that broke out at a government hospital in Pakistan. The fire broke out in the gynaecology ward on the third floor of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Islamabad.

The accident occurred at 6.15 am today. Out of 16 children in the ward, 15 died. Only one baby was saved, Pakistani media reported. The fire was reportedly caused by an explosion in an air conditioner compressor.

Firefighters entered the building by breaking windows and carried out rescue operations. The fire is currently under control. An investigation has been launched into the accident.
