Four children killed in Dindigul crash; speeding milk van runs over children playing by roadside; driver held

CHENNAI: Four children were killed after a milk van ran them over while they were playing by the roadside at Kanavai Medu in Kollampatti Samathuvapuram near Vadamadurai in Dindigul district on Sunday afternoon. The accident occurred around 2.30 pm when the van, travelling at high speed, lost control and hit the children. All four died in the accident.


The victims were identified as N Yogavarshini (11), N Ananya (6), J Dhanushree (5) and C Moshikaran (6). Yogavarshini and Ananya were sisters. The bodies were taken to Dindigul Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The children had accompanied their relative P Anjammal (60), who was grazing goats near the accident site. Anjammal reportedly fainted after witnessing the accident and was taken for treatment.

The milk van initially fled the scene following the accident. Police later traced the vehicle and took the driver into custody. Vadamadurai police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.
