KOLKATA: Ashish Banerjee, former minister and former deputy speaker of West Bengal and Trinamool Congress leader, has been found dead. He was found hanging in Trinamool Congress’ office in Birbhum district’s Rampurhat city Sunday morning.
The body has been shifted to the hospital for postmortem. The reason to take the extreme step is not known. He was found hanging in the office next to his house in Birbhum. A suicide note has also been recovered from there. The police have registered a case of unnatural death and started an investigation into the incident.
He had served as the deputy speaker when Trinamool Congress’ chief Mamata Banerjee was the chief minister of West Bengal. He was five-time MLA from Rampurhat. The police have launched a detailed investigation into his death.
