THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Overspeeding has been confirmed in the BMW technical inspection report in the case involving a Mini Cooper that killed three people in a crash at Nedumbassery. BMW India submitted the report to the investigation team on Thursday after analysing data retrieved from the vehicle's Advanced Crash Safety Module (ACSM).

According to the report, the car was travelling at 162 kmph around five seconds before the accident. Its speed had dropped to 144 kmph at the time of the collision. The report also found that the driver applied the brakes only about one second before the crash.

Earlier, the investigation team had examined CCTV footage from various locations along the route to the accident site. The footage showed that the car covered a distance of 500 metres in just 11 seconds. The BMW report has now corroborated these findings.

The confirmation of overspeeding through the vehicle's crash data is considered crucial evidence in the investigation. The probe is being led by Aluva DySP Baiju Paulose under the supervision of District Police Chief K.S. Sudarshan.
