BENGALURU: The immortal voice of South Indian music, S Janaki, will be laid to rest in Mysuru today with full state honours. Her body was taken to the Maharaja's College grounds in Mysuru for public homage. She will be laid to rest at the farmhouse in Kaniyahundi village in Mysuru at 4.30 pm. Her last wish was to cremate her body in Mysuru.
A large crowd is thronging at the Maharaja's College Grounds to see their beloved Janaki Amma for the last time. The police have made elaborate security arrangements in Mysore city following the heavy rush. Traffic restrictions have been imposed on the main roads leading to the Maharaja's College Grounds and Mysore city.
S Janaki has sung more than 48,000 songs in her musical career spanning over six decades. Her voice has been heard in about twenty languages including Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi. Her expressive singing style and variety in voice have made Janaki stand out in the Indian music world.
