DEHRADUN: A 27-year-old tech professional on vacation was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside a homestay room in the hill station of Mussoorie, police said on Monday.
The deceased, identified as P. Radha Gayatri, was employed with an IT firm in Gurugram. According to investigators, she had been visiting Uttarakhand with her husband, Soumya Sreecharan, a Pune-based IT professional. The couple, originally hailing from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, had tied the knot recently on November 8, 2025.
Preliminary police reports indicate that the couple travelled from Delhi to Rishikesh on June 13, before arriving at a Kiana Homestay at Tipridhar(also referred to as Tipri Dhar)area of Mussoorie late the following night. They reportedly checked into their room at around 11:30 PM on June 14.
In his statement to the police, Sreecharan claimed that the couple had consumed alcohol during the night and went to bed at around 3:30 AM. He further stated that upon waking up the next morning, he discovered his wife lying unresponsive and unclothed on the floor, with blood oozing from her nose.
Local authorities were alerted to the situation yesterday morning after receiving reports of an unresponsive woman at the homestay. A police contingent along with emergency medical services rushed to the spot, where a paramedic accompanying the ambulance examined Radha Gayatri and pronounced her dead at the scene. Upon inspecting the room, investigating officers recovered the victim's unclothed body from the floor and noted distinct bloodstains on the bedsheets. Investigators also recovered two empty liquor bottles and remnants of food from the scene.
Given the strange circumstances surrounding the death, local police have launched an intensive investigation to determine the exact cause of the demise. The body has been transferred to the Coronation Hospital in Dehradun for a post-mortem examination, which officials say will provide definitive clarity on the timeline and cause of death. Further inquiries are currently underway.
