AI CAMERAS IN THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If you are among those drivers who roam across the city believing that the AI cameras have stopped working long back, better be warned. The 625 AI cameras installed by the Motor Vehicles Department across the state send footage to the control rooms, and violations are recorded regularly.

When the internet connection is restored, this footage will reach the control room. Then, it will reach the vehicle owner in the form of challans or messages.

The Road Safety Authority owes Keltron Rs 52 crore for installing AI cameras. As the arrears piled up, Keltron failed to pay its internet bill. With this, the service provider Jio disconnected the internet connection. The AI cameras were installed in April 2023. Keltron has been given a contract to operate the cameras until 2028.

The next cabinet meeting is likely to make a decision on the further implementation of the project.
