NEW DELHI: Public sector oil marketing companies are planning to increase the sale of lightweight 10 kg LPG cylinders. If the proposal receives approval from the central government, these cylinders, which are currently available for domestic consumers, will also be sold for commercial use. At present, the market is mainly served by domestic LPG cylinders and 19 kg commercial cylinders.
The 10 kg cylinders are expected to be useful in places where LPG is needed, but there is not enough space for the larger 19 kg commercial cylinders. They are also seen as a practical option for migrant workers, tenants, students, street vendors, and small hotels or restaurants. The move comes as many users have complained that the 19 kg commercial cylinders are heavy and difficult to handle.
Oil companies say the 10 kg LPG cylinders are lightweight, making them easier to lift, carry, and transport. Currently, 19 kg, 5 kg, and 2 kg LPG cylinders are available for commercial use. If approval is granted, the addition of 10 kg cylinders is expected to offer greater convenience for commercial customers.
