NEW DELHI: A US citizen has sought permission to cook his own food in Tihar Jail. Prisoner Matthew Aaron Vandyke has filed a plea in the Delhi court, alleging that the food served is too spicy and oily and that it will affect his health. His plea demanded American food in the prison.

The plea alleged that the food in the prison is not right and that it will cause several health issues. Matthew mentioned in the plea that he is presently drinking only soya milk and that he has lost about fourteen kilos since May 6. So, the demand is he be allowed to cook his own food.

The petition also includes a long list of items such as stoves, utensils, chicken, fish, rice, pasta, noodles, bread, oil, ghee, milk, and vegetables required for cooking food. The petition also states that all the expenses of this will be borne by his family. Delhi Court Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma has sought a response from the Tihar Jail authorities on the incident.

Matthew Aaron VanDyke was arrested by the NIA for terrorist activities against India and providing weapons training to rebel groups. He was arrested by the NIA from Kolkata on March 13 along with six Ukrainian nationals. The group, who came from Myanmar, entered India illegally through the Mizoram border.
