KANNUR: The Payyannur police have registered a case against a physical education teacher for brutally assaulting a boy of class 8 in the playground. Action was taken against Reghu, a teacher of SABTM High School in Thayineri.

Reghu beat the boy on the playground on June 22 at around 11 am. As the boy was having fever, he stayed in the classroom during the PT period without going to the playground. His mother said that he was beaten brutally for it. She also alleged that when the boy did not respond, the teacher grabbed him by the throat and tried to suffocate him and pushed him against a wall. The boy was unable even to swallow saliva after the attack. She said that he narrated the whole incident when asked him after seeing him crying and not having food.

The boy’s mother alleged that the school authorities tried to settle the incident when he was in the hospital. The family initially filed a complaint with the Payyannur police, but they did not file a case. She later approached the office of the DySP office and filed a complaint. An FIR was then registered. The FIR said the student was beaten with hands and sticks, causing injuries.
