PALAKKAD: In a gruesome incident that has sent shockwaves through the local community, a 50-year-old man hacked his wife to death before taking his own life at their residence in Thachanattukara, near Mannarkkad.

The deceased have been identified as Sukumaran (50) and his wife, Deepa (42), who resided at Pallath Colony, located on the Kombathumpallam-Kundurkunnu Road.

According to police reports, the tragedy unfolded between 8:00 PM and 8:30 PM. A heated domestic dispute escalated violently when an intoxicated Sukumaran attacked Deepa with a sharp weapon, inflicting severe deep cuts. Immediately after the assault, Sukumaran used the same weapon to slit his own throat.

The couple’s 19-year-old daughter was inside the house at the time of the incident. Though neighbours and locals rushed a critically injured Deepa to a private hospital in Vattambalam, she succumbed to her wounds and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Local police arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted. A preliminary investigation has been launched, with officials confirming that chronic family disputes coupled with alcohol abuse led to the murder-suicide.
