Pregnant woman falls from moving bus; driver and conductor arrested

CHAVAKKAD: The driver and conductor of a private bus have been arrested after a 21-year-old pregnant woman fell from the moving vehicle and sustained injuries in Chavakkad. The arrested are bus driver Prakashan, a native of Chalissery, and conductor Kalidasan from Thali. A case has been registered against them under non-bailable sections.

The injured woman has been identified as Fathima, wife of Thekkancheri native Shadil. A student of Little Flower College in Mammiyoor, Fathima is three months pregnant.

The incident occurred around 8.30 am on Wednesday when the bus was taking a turn on the Chavakkad South Bypass. The accident took place on the Palayoor bus operating on the Kunnamkulam route. As the bus took the turn, Fathima, who was holding on to a support bar, lost her grip and fell through the open rear door onto the road. She was immediately taken to a private hospital in Chavakkad. She sustained injuries to her leg, hand and face. As the injuries were not serious, she was discharged from the hospital shortly afterwards.
