Seven sacks of banned tobacco products go missing from police station

SULTAN BATHERY: Seven sacks of banned tobacco products kept as court property have gone missing from the Sultan Bathery police station. The products, which were handed over to the police by the Sultan Bathery court on June 26, were found missing on Thursday evening.

The seized tobacco products were stored in the station’s storeroom. The matter came to light on the night of September 10, when station writer Biju informed the inspector about the missing items.

The tobacco products were discovered missing when the storeroom was opened for cleaning. Police searched the station premises and surrounding areas but failed to find them.

The storeroom key is usually kept in the custody of the assistant station writer. Police suspect that someone took the key, opened the storeroom and removed the tobacco products.

Police said an outsider could not have entered the storeroom and removed the seized items. The station is also equipped with CCTV cameras. The dog squad and forensic experts visited the station and conducted a detailed inspection.
