Anusree threatened suicide during lovers’ tiff; what happened next ended in double tragedy for engaged bank officials

KASARAGOD: It was a lovers’ tiff and a suicide act that went tragically wrong, that led to the deaths of two engaged bank officials, police said. P. Anusree, 25, daughter of Chandran and Reena of Pallikkara, Kasaragod, and V. Amal, 26, son of Sudhakaran of Vilamana, in Iritty, Kannur, died by suicide at two different places on the 12th.

Police found that the two had been chatting over the phone on the night of the 11th. During the conversation, they had a tiff, following which Anusree, pretending to be angry, threatened Amal that she would die by suicide. She then made a video call to Amal and, while on the call, climbed onto a stool and tied her churidar shawl around her neck and to a fan. However, the stool slipped, causing the shawl to tighten around her neck. She died in the incident.

Amal, who witnessed what happened over the video call, immediately informed Anusree’s father, Chandran. Chandran and relatives left for Karnataka around 3 a.m. and found Anusree’s body on reaching there.

Amal later died by suicide at his place of residence, reportedly unable to bear the distress of witnessing the death of the woman he was to marry.
The wedding had been fixed for December 26. Anusree was an employee at the SBI branch in Hunsoor, Karnataka, while Amal was the branch manager of the SBI MG Road branch in Ernakulam.
