PATHANAMTHITTA: Brahmadathan is likely to replace his father Kandararu Rajeevaru as the Sabarimala Tantri. The expert panel has informed the Devaswom Board that Brahmadathan is eligible for the post. The panel informed this after holding discussions with board president K Jayakumar.
This is following the assessment that Brahmadathan has expertise in Tantric rituals. The panel will hold talks with Brahmadathan to discuss about it. A final decision will be taken after the Devaswom Board submits the report to the Kerala High Court.
Kandararu Rajeevaru cited health issues and had written to the board requesting to relieve him and hand over the post to his son. From Chingam to Karkidakam, two families of the Thazhamon Madom perform the Tantric rituals in Sabarimala on a turn basis.
The present tantri is Kandararu Mahesh Mohanaru, son of senior Tantri Kandararu Mohanar. His term will end with the Niraputhari poojas on August 2. If the high Court takes a decision in favour of Brahmadathan, he will then be the tantri from August 16, when the temple opens for the poojas in Chingam.
