Departmental action against three employees after theft case accused jumps Aluva sub-jail 

ALUVA: Departmental action has been initiated against three employees of Aluva sub-jail following the escape of theft case accused Madhurjya Sonowal of Assam. The jail chief has sought a report on the incident. After escaping from the jail, Sonowal reached Perumbavoor Police Station to collect his Aadhaar card, which had been taken into custody when he was arrested. However, the police officers on duty failed to recognize him. An official inquiry has also been ordered into the lapse on the part of the Perumbavoor police.

A special team of the Aluva Police is continuing the search for the accused in Perumbavoor. The police are vigilant as there are chances for him to leave the state. A lookout notice carrying his photograph has also been issued. The authorities have asked people receiving any information about him to report to the nearest police station.

The accused is believed to have escaped from the jail around 4:30 pm on Monday. It is believed that he may have climbed through the wall of the recently built kitchen in the jail and jumped over the back wall. He was wearing a yellow T-shirt and saffron colour mundu when he escaped. The police had questioned the Bengalis who were engaged in tile work when the accused escaped. It is believed that they do not have any involvement in the incident.

The Perumbavoor police caught him when he was trying to sell the stolen mobile phones in Perumbavoor. The nine mobile phones recovered from him were stolen from the workers' quarters of the Mampilly Plywood Company in Edathala.

The Perumbavoor police had taken his Aadhaar card when he was taken into custody. After escaping from the jail, the accused came to the Perumbavoor station to collect it. The policeman on duty did not recognize him. When another policeman arrived later, the accused ran away from the station, fearing that he would be recognized. The police did not try to follow him. Reports said the accused, who fled from the Perumbavoor station, had approached a mobile shop in Perumbavoor to borrow money. The shopkeeper did not give him the money.
