Electric cars to get cheaper; private buses also get relief

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF government's budget has announced a relief measure for private bus operators. Chief Minister V D Satheesan announced a 50 percent discount on quarterly tax. The quarterly tax of tourist buses has also been reduced. The announcement is to provide alternative relief to Priyadarshini, the free travel scheme for women in KSRTC. With the introduction of the Priyadarshini scheme, the owners came forward showing that private buses are in a crisis.


The budget also announced that the price of electric cars will get cheaper. Tax has been reduced from 5 percent to 3 percent for vehicles up to 10 lakhs. Tax has been reduced to 5 percent for vehicles up to 20 lakhs. With this, it is expected that there will be a huge increase in the electric vehicle market.
