THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain across Kerala for the next five days, with yellow alerts issued in several districts. A yellow alert has been issued for Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kannur and Kasaragod on Tuesday, August 18. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in these districts. Heavy rainfall refers to precipitation between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours. The latest rain warning comes as Onam celebrations are underway across the state.
Meanwhile, there is no restriction on fishing along the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts on Monday, August 17. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has warned of possible sea erosion along the Kerala coast due to the Kallakkadal phenomenon. High waves ranging from 0.9 to 1.5 metres are expected until 11.30 pm on Tuesday, August 18.
