THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Continuous heavy rain and strong winds have prompted district administrations to declare a holiday on Friday, July 31, for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, in Ernakulam, Kasaragod and Wayanad amid orange alerts.
In Ernakulam, the closure extends to professional colleges, anganwadis and tuition centres. Authorities have also restricted mining activities across the district on Friday and Saturday.
In Kasaragod, the Central Meteorological Department has forecast the possibility of heavy rain and an orange alert has been issued. As a precautionary measure, District Collector Arjun Pandian ordered a holiday on Friday for all educational institutions, including colleges, professional colleges, schools, anganwadis, tuition centres, ICSE and CBSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas and religious educational institutions, including madrasas.
The holiday will not apply to residential schools. Pre-scheduled university and public examinations and interviews will be held as planned, the Collector said.
In Wayanad, the district administration has also declared a holiday on Friday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, amid an orange alert and continuing heavy rain. The order will not apply to pre-scheduled public examinations, residential schools and colleges.
