THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of the continued heavy rains in the state, district collectors declared a holiday for educational institutions in nine districts tomorrow. The holiday has been declared for Pathanamthitta, Kannur, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur, Kottayam and Idukki districts.
A holiday has also been declared for educational institutions in Chengannur and Kuttanad taluks. All educational institutions operating relief camps in Alappuzha district will be closed tomorrow, District Collector Shaji V Nair announced. The holiday will apply to professional colleges, anganwadis and tuition centres in Chengannur and Kuttanad taluks. There will be no change in the previously scheduled exams.
According to the warning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, an orange alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts today, and a yellow alert for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts. Fishing is prohibited on the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep. A yellow alert has been issued for 10 districts tomorrow, including Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
