Monsoon rains ease Kerala's power demand; consumption drops significantly

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Strengthening monsoon rains have brought relief to Kerala's power situation, with electricity consumption falling significantly over the past two days.

The state's peak power demand dropped from 4,538 MW on Friday to 4,054 MW on Saturday. Daily electricity consumption also recorded a notable decline, falling from 89.077 million units on Friday to 82.8846 million units on Saturday.
Power purchased from outside Kerala also decreased slightly, from 63.6313 million units on Friday to 62.1847 million units on Saturday.

However, water levels in the state's reservoirs have not yet risen enough to boost domestic power generation. Hydroelectric projects generated 18.2193 million units of electricity on Saturday.
The water level at the Idukki Dam stood at 37.48%, compared with 70% during the same period last year.
