THRISSUR: There is a grave concern following a landslide at the Kuthiran Tunnel. A landslide has reportedly occurred at two locations near the entrance of the tunnel. Although the landslide is minor, continuous rain in the area has raised concerns. The affected section also contains fallen trees and debris. As soon as the information was received, a patrol team from the highway control room reached the spot and conducted an inspection. Former minister and MLA K Rajan and the district collector have reached the spot.

The Peechi forest region lies above the location of the landslide. With the help of the forest officials, experts will inspect the area to check for water channels or water logging. National Highway experts are also expected to reach the site for a more detailed inspection. It is not yet clear whether the tunnel will be closed following the landslide and heavy rains. The authorities have stated that there is presently no need for panic.

The Kuthiran Tunnel is a major route connecting the Palakkad and Thrissur districts. Thousands of vehicles pass through the tunnel every day. If it is necessary to close the tunnel, it could seriously disrupt the daily lives of people in the area.
