KOCHI: The CBI has filed the chargesheet in the Life mission corruption case in Wadakkancherry. The charge sheet was filed against six accused including Swapna Suresh. Santhosh Eappan is the first accused. However, M Sivasankar, former chief minister's principal secretary, who was included in the list of accused in the first chargesheet, is not named as an accused in the latest chargesheet.

This Life Mission project in Wadakkancherry was started as part of the rehabilitation following the 2018 floods. The construction was using financial assistance provided by the UAE Red Crescent. However, halfway through its implementation, the project embroiled in controversy following allegations of commission deals and irregularities related to the utilization of foreign funds. It was also assessed that Kerala is receiving foreign aid directly. Rs 21 crore was received as per the agreement signed with the UAE Red Crescent. Of this, it was found that the accused embezzled four crore as commission. The CBI registered a case based on the complaint of former Wadakkancherry MLA Anil Akkara.
