Man stabs female shop owner after failing to win lottery; arrested

WAYANAD: A woman, who owns a lottery shop in Wayanad was stabbed after failing to win a prize for the lottery taken. The police have taken the accused into custody. The victim has been identified as Vineetha Rajeesh, owner of the Poongavanam Lottery Shop at Nambiarkunnu in Nenmеni Panchayat. The accused, Sivakumar of Pattavayal in Tamil Nadu, has been taken into police custody.

The incident happened Sunday morning. Sivakumar was a regular customer of the lottery shop. He allegedly got into an argument with Vineetha, claiming that he had never won a prize despite regularly purchasing lottery tickets from the shop. In a fit of rage, he took the knife he had with him and stabbed Vineetha. Locals, who rushed to the spot seeing the incident, intervened and restrained Sivakumar from stabbing her.

Vineetha, who sustained injuries on her head and neck was immediately admitted to the Bathery Taluk Hospital. Reports say Sivakumar was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The police have stated an investigation into the incident.
