
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala state exchequer has disbursed a total of ₹2.44 crore (₹24,406,582) to cover the medical treatment expenses of the Chief Minister, cabinet ministers, and their family members during the tenure of the second Pinarayi Vijayan government.
According to official data, former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan topped the list, accounting for the highest expenditure with ₹93.24 lakh sanctioned for his medical care. A major portion of this amount—₹88.18 lakh—was utilised across three separate visits for specialised treatment at the Mayo Clinic in the United States.
Among the cabinet ministers, K. Krishnankutty claimed the highest amount at ₹48.69 lakh, followed closely by V. Sivankutty at ₹33.48 lakh. Higher Education Minister Dr. R. Bindu’s medical reimbursement amounted to ₹10.03 lakh (₹10,03,593).
Opposition and Institutional Claims
The medical expense claims were not limited to the treasury benches. Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan claimed ₹6.45 lakh, while Chief Whip Dr. N. Jayaraj accounted for ₹1.19 lakh.
In contrast, some ministers registered nominal expenses. K. Radhakrishnan claimed ₹99,129, P.A. Mohammed Riyas claimed ₹18,135, and Saji Cheriyan recorded the lowest among those who filed claims, at ₹12,096.
