Damodara Menon from Brunei not Sukumara Kurup; Police confirm news, NORKA with crucial details

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An authentic report suggested that the photos circulating in the name of fugitive Sukumara Kurup are of Damodara Menon, a native of Karumatra, Wadakkanchery, Thrissur. The relatives of Menon came up to confirm this, while police also seconded the claim. It has been reported that NORKA had intervened a month ago to help Damodara Menon, who is suffering from memory loss and mental problems in Brunei. NORKA had sent a letter to the state government a month ago to bring Damodara Menon back to the country. NORKA intervened in the matter after getting a request from the Indian High Commission in Brunei. NORKA sent the letter to the government on July 2.

The controversy surrounding Sukumara Kurup spread like wildfire in Kerala after a prominent regional news channel published the photo, claiming it to be their exclusive breaking news. Efforts are underway to bring Damodaram Menon back to his homeland. Damodaram Menon, who went to Malaysia 40 years ago, married a Palakkad native and lived there. He has two children, who are now in Malaysia and Australia. Damodara Menon is undergoing treatment following an accident. His wife and children were reluctant to look after him. On June 16, the Indian High Commission informed volunteers and community leaders in Brunei that Damodara Menon needed treatment and emergency assistance. The volunteers found his passport information and details about his relatives. The relatives in Kerala then showed willingness to look after a senile Menon if he was brought back to Kerala.
