KANNUR: Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar owned Niraamaya Retreats has taken over the management of the controversial Kannur Vaidekam Resort. Both parties had signed the agreement on April 15 and the entire management rights of the resort have been handed over to Niramaya Retreats from April 16.

Videkam was a resort where the wife and son of Left Front convener and CPM central committee member EP Jayarajan had ownership. Shares worth 91 lakh rupees are owned by both of them in the resort. EP Jayarajan's wife PK Indira said that the ownership of the resort was not transferred and only the temporary management was transferred. PK Indira also stated that the contract will be canceled if the performance is not satisfactory. Indira had earlier denied the news that Rajeev Chandrasekhar would take over the resort. It is reported that the two companies had been negotiating the contract for the past six months, but it is not clear how much the contract was signed for.

Youth Congress leader Jobin Jacob had filed a complaint alleging corruption in the construction of the resort. The complaint states that the Anthoor Municipality sought out-of-the-line help for the construction of the resort and that under the influence of EP Jayarajan, the Chairperson, Secretary and other officials of the Anthoor Municipality conspired for the resort. The complaint also demanded an investigation against the officials who connived in the construction of the resort.
