THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have arrested a man on charges of abetment of suicide following the death of his 27-year-old wife, who was found hanging at their residence in Vizhinjam. The accused has been identified as Abhilash, a resident of Podiyanivila House located near the local Community Health Centre. The deceased, Vighneshwari, reportedly ended her life just two days after the couple marked their second wedding anniversary.

According to law enforcement officials, a suicide note recovered from the scene pointed directly to domestic abuse. In the note, Vighneshwari stated that Abhilash routinely returned home in an intoxicated state and subjected her to physical assault, forcing her to take the extreme step due to the resulting distress. The police added that digital evidence retrieved from Vighneshwari's mobile phone further corroborated the allegations of physical torture.

The incident unfolded when Vighneshwari was alone at home. Abhilash's father, Chandran, arrived at the house to find it locked from the inside. When Vighneshwari did not respond to multiple phone calls, Chandran, with the assistance of a neighbour, broke open a window to check inside and discovered her body.

The local police were immediately notified of the situation. Following the recovery of the suicide note and the digital records from Vighneshwari's phone, Abhilash was formally arrested under charges of abetment of suicide, and further legal proceedings are underway.
