NEW DELHI: Three Indian sailors were killed in an attack on an oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz. Initial reports said they were missing in the attack earlier this week. All three missing sailors have been confirmed dead, said Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The minister said their bodies have not been recovered, although they have been confirmed dead. The dead have been identified as deck cadet Aditya Sharma, engine fitter Shivanand Chaurasia and chief engineer Patnala Suresh.
US attacked the oil tanker Settebello. The US military Central Command said the ship was attacked from the Iranian port because it tried to violate the sanctions. The military also said that the sailors were not ready to obey the military's instructions. The report said the missile fired by the US fighter jet hit the ship's engine room directly. People there had died. There were a total of 28 people on the ship, including 24 Indian citizens and four foreigners. The remaining people from the ship, which caught fire after the attack, were rescued by Oman.
Meanwhile, after the US intensified its attacks again, Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. Iran says that it has blocked all types of traffic through it. Iran has also warned that it will fire on ships passing through Hormuz.
