KOCHI: Sindhu (also known as Stoysi, 56), the prime accused in the human trafficking case, has confessed that the operation of transporting Malayali women to Dubai and handing them over to sex rackets under the pretext of modelling opportunities has been active for four years. Sindhu is a native of Guruvayur and was living at Thainoth Kadavu in Aluva. Her confession has revealed that several young Malayali women had been trafficked to Dubai and handed over to the sex racket. Police are now collecting details of other victims who may have been trapped in the scheme.
Apart from the arrested accused, including Manjima from Ponnani and Aleena from Thiruvananthapuram, police said several agents were working under Sindhu. Efforts are underway to arrest them as well. Police suspect that some film and serial actresses are also connected to the racket. Among those still absconding are Dubai-based Shamla and Rahmath, who are believed to have links with an international sex trafficking network. Sindhu has been remanded in judicial custody until June 4 and shifted to the Kakkanad Women’s Jail following orders from the Ernakulam First Class Magistrate Court. According to the remand report submitted by the police, the accused also had close links with criminal gangs and were involved in recording explicit videos of women trapped by the racket.
Police said one complainant was taken to Dubai after being promised a job as a makeup artist at a company named “Alisa Events,” allegedly owned by Sindhu in Dubai. Sindhu reportedly collected Rs 4.75 lakh from the victim for tickets and visa expenses. The woman reached Dubai on February 20, 2024. According to the remand report, after she was taken to an apartment, she was allegedly given a white powder mixed in a drink, which made her unconscious. Police said several men were then brought into the room and the woman was allegedly gang-raped.
Investigators also said Sindhu recorded videos of the assault and sent them to the victim’s husband’s mobile phone. WhatsApp chats have also surfaced, allegedly showing Sindhu negotiating prices with clients using the videos.
