ALAPPUZHA: G. Sudhakaran, the MLA-elect from Ambalappuzha, has said that the BJP could come to power in Kerala in the future. He made the remark while referring to the increase in the BJP’s vote share in the Assembly elections, in which the party won three MLA seats. Sudhakaran also sharply criticised SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan.

“Till yesterday, Vellappally was saying that the LDF would come to power in Kerala. That is only his personal opinion,” Sudhakaran said.

He also claimed that he received the support of a majority of Muslim voters in Ambalappuzha. Defending the Muslim League, Sudhakaran said the party is not communal and described it as “one of the biggest secular movements in the state.”

Soon after his election victory, G. Sudhakaran had visited Panakkad and met Muslim League state president Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal and senior leader P. K. Kunhalikutty.

Speaking to the media after the visit, Sudhakaran said he had gone to Panakkad to thank them for their support during the election campaign.

“Thangal and Kunhalikutty Sahib gave great support during the election in Ambalappuzha. The Muslim community has already proved that it is a secular minority community. That has been recorded in our history. We should remember those who helped us with gratitude. That is why I came here,” he said.
