KOZHIKODE: More details have emerged regarding the tragic incident in which a pregnant woman was burnt to death after a moving car caught fire at Cheruvannur in Perambra. According to the district forensic team, the fire is believed to have started from the rear side of the car. Officials also said that a short circuit is unlikely to be the cause of the accident.

Authorities stated that further detailed examinations are needed to determine the exact reason behind the fire. Investigators found no signs of fire originating from the engine's radiator section. The forensic team also did not detect any issues in the vehicle's air-conditioning system. Experts say the exact cause can only be confirmed after more inspections. The Motor Vehicles Department will also conduct a separate investigation into the incident.

The shocking accident took place around 9:15 PM on Thursday night. The victim was identified as Sona, a native of Cheruvannur. She was six months pregnant at the time of her death. The incident happened while Sona and her husband were returning home in their Maruti Suzuki Swift after visiting a doctor. Locals rushed to the spot after noticing flames and smoke rising from the moving vehicle.

Although her husband Rajinlal, who was driving the car, managed to escape from the driver’s seat, Sona was trapped inside the rear seat as the door reportedly got locked. Her body was recovered only after the fire force unit from Perambra reached the scene. Sona's husband Rajinlal also suffered serious burn injuries in the incident. He is currently undergoing treatment at Government Medical College, Kozhikode, with nearly 60 percent burns.
