Technopark employee drowns while trying to save friend in Thavakkal river

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A young woman drowned to death while trying to save her friend who fell into a river in Thiruvananthapuram. Anupama (26), a native of Kamleshwaram, Thiruvananthapuram, died in the tragic incident that took place around 2 pm on Thursday.

Anupama drowned in the Vitthura-Chantamukku Thavakkal river near Nedumangad. While walking on the steps of the river, her friend slipped and fell into the deep portion of the river. Anupama, who tried helping her friend, also slipped into the river. Although her friend was rescued, Anupama went untraceable.

It was the migrant workers in the area who initiated the rescue operation and pulled Anupama out of the river. Though she was rushed to the Vithura Taluk Hospital, her life could not be saved. The body has been shifted to the Taluk Hospital morgue.
