Gang-rape in Valancherry: Three in police custody

MALAPPURAM: Three persons were taken into police custody for a case of gang-rape of a woman after trespassing inside a house in Valancherry. Those in custody have been identified as Sunil, Sasi and Prakashan, natives of Valancherry's Peedikappadi.

After learning that Sunil and Shashi had been caught, Prakashan went to Palakkad to escape and was taken into custody by the police. The police registered a case on the complaint of a woman from Valancherry and took the three people into custody on the basis of her statement.

The woman says that the incident took place on a night three days ago. It has been stated in the complaint that the woman, who works in Pathanamthitta district, came home for vacation and was staying at her relative's house. The woman has given accurate information about the accused to the police. Meanwhile, the rape victim is still undergoing treatment in the hospital and is reported to have serious health problems.
