KANNUR: Former Kannur Zilla Panchayat President PP Divya clarified that recent media reports suggesting she spoke against the CPM were inaccurate. In a Facebook post, Divya stated that while she had provided a response to the media, her comments had been misrepresented. She emphasized that she had not made any statements critical of the party or its members, dismissing such reports as false interpretations.
The media had circulated claims that Divya felt she was treated unfairly by the party, in contrast to other leaders such as MV Govindan’s wife PK Shyamala and former state committee member James Mathew. These reports quoted Divya as saying she had been "thrown away like a curry leaf," but she firmly denied making such remarks.
“As a responsible party member, my statements are meant to be shared on party platforms. I fully accept the actions taken by my party, and I urge my comrades and friends to reject these false reports,” Divya clarified, reiterating her commitment to the party’s principles and decisions.
The CPM recently took disciplinary action against Divya by downgrading her position to the branch committee. This decision came while she was in judicial remand related to the death of ADM Naveen Babu. The move, reportedly driven by by-election pressures, was made by the Kannur District Committee on instructions from the state leadership. The demotion aimed to demonstrate the party’s stance on internal accountability in the face of legal scrutiny.
Party insiders believe Divya could potentially return to higher roles once the controversies subside. State Secretary MV Govindan has referred to Divya as a good party cadre who made a mistake, signaling the possibility of future reinstatement. However, her chances of securing a prominent seat in the next Kannur assembly election may be uncertain given the recent developments.
