ALAPPUZHA: Police registered a case of involuntary manslaughter against Soni in the death of his wife Saji in Cherthala. Soni, who is currently in custody will be arrested soon. Cherthala Muttom native VC Saji (48) died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital.

The body was exhumed yesterday from the St. Mary's Ferona church cemetery as Saji’s daughter cried foul in the death and expressed doubt about her father’s role in the case. The body was taken to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital and a post-mortem was conducted. The post-mortem report pointed to a bruise on the back of Saji's head and a fracture on her skull. The post-mortem was completed this afternoon. The police recorded the statement of the forensic surgeon who conducted the post-mortem.

Saji’s daughter had earlier filed a complaint with Cherthala police expressing doubt over her mother's death. In the complaint, it mentions that Soni often used to beat badly his wife Saji over trivial reasons. On the night of January 8th, Saji went through gruelling torture from her husband and it is alleged that her head hit a wall inside the house. She was admitted to the hospital and was undergoing treatment for over a month. Just two days back, she succumbed to her injuries.
