THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Women and Child Development Department will launch the WOMN (Women On the Move & Menstrual Needs) project tomorrow as part of efforts to make travel safer and more convenient for women. The primary objective of the initiative is to make sanitary napkins available at affordable rates to women who may require them during travel in emergency situations.

The project will also provide incinerator facilities for the environmentally friendly disposal of used sanitary napkins. As part of the pilot phase, sanitary napkin vending machines and incinerators will be installed at 14 KSRTC centres. Each packet will contain three sanitary napkins and will be priced at Rs 10. The initiative aims to address the emergency menstrual hygiene needs of women during travel while also promoting hygiene and environmental protection. In the second phase, the project will be expanded beyond KSRTC depots to more public spaces, including major tourist destinations.

The project is being implemented by the Women and Child Development Department as part of the state government's 100-day action programme, in collaboration with Hindustan Latex Limited. The project will be inaugurated at 4.30 pm tomorrow at the Thampanoor KSRTC Bus Terminal. Transport Minister C.P. John will preside over the function, while Women and Child Development and Labour Minister Bindhu Krishnan will inaugurate the project. Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V.V. Rajesh will be the chief guest.
