NEW DELHI: A Major controversy erupted across the political milieu after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name surfaced in the new files released by the US Department of Justice regarding sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. More information was leaked about powerful individuals in Epstein's circle of influence. Epstein mentioned in the email that Modi took his advice and visited Israel in 2017. It is mentioned that the prime minister did so for the American President and that it benefited him. However, the email does not specify what benefit the Prime Minister received.

Meanwhile, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs hurriedly intervened to dismiss the report. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that apart from the Prime Minister's visit to Israel in July 2017, other indications are trashy ruminations by a convicted criminal that deserve to be dismissed with utmost contempt.

Following the revelations, the Congress came out with a strong criticism against the central government. The Congress asked the prime minister to make it clear about the advice he sought from a serial child rapist and sex offender. The Congress also demanded an explanation as to what benefit the prime minister gained from it.

The new documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice include more than three million pages, more than 2,000 videos, and 1.8 million images. Documents that were previously withheld from release have now been made public through a website.
